Normale huur is a project run by the Dutch student association Vidius. Their goal is to inform students in Utrecht about the high rents (around 119 EUR above average per month). Normale huur created a checklist for students to figure out if they’re paying too much rent. Vidius helps them reducing their monthly rent.
From 2014 to 2017 DDK was asked to help increase brand awareness of the project Normalehuur.nl by designing free giveaways, such as tote bags.
My design concept focused on illustrating student life, based upon my research about what student life is like in each year. First year topics included suggestions (such as go dancing) for spending the money saved on rent. The second year was an inspirational illustration: what is in a student bag? The third year topic highlighted the checklist to find out how much rent they’re paying.
A total of 300 tote bags have been distributed by Vidius to students at recruitment events over the last the three years.
